Whitefish Bay Man Charged In Teen Overdose Death Has Bond Raised

Published on November 3, 2009 (2 weeks, 3 days ago)

A suburban Milwaukee man charged in the drug overdose death of a 15-year-old girl had his bond raised by ten fold today to $100,000. 23-year-old Matthew Laughrin of Whitefish Bay was charged last month with second-degree reckless homicide. Police said Maddie Kiefer went to Laughrin’s home February 28th to buy marijuana. And witnesses said he also gave her two prescription drugs which authorities said she died from the next day. One of those drugs is designed to help wean people off of heroin. Laughrin’s attorney, Robin Shellow, said it was wrong to charge her client with homicide. She said the Kiefer girl had a history of drug abuse, and her death was really an accident. A judge is scheduled to hear a trial in Laughrin’s case next March. He’s due back in court on December 8th. 18-year-old Brittany Blue of Glendale is charged with felony drug delivery, for allegedly providing some of Maddie’s medications. She’s scheduled to enter a plea next March. Laughlin’s 59-year-old father Richard was convicted of child abandonment, for helping to leave the girl’s dead body in the driveway of one of her friends. He’s scheduled to be sentenced November 13th.
