Wisconsin’s Capital City is getting ready to host President Obama Wednesday – the first anniversary of his election. He’ll talk about education at Wright Middle School in Madison. It’s a charter school with the largest percentage of poor and minority students in the city. Local officials have not been told how long Obama will be in town, or what his route to the school will be. The air space will be cleared around Madison, and the airport urges fliers to check their airlines for delays. Monday, students at Wright Middle School were told to get there by 8:15 Wednesday morning, when the doors will be locked. They’ll go through a security checkpoint – and they’ll have to leave their cell phones, backpacks, and video cameras at home. Their parents won’t be there, either, and at least one says she’s disappointed. It’s not known what special things the school would have to do. When Obama visited Green Bay in June, there were reports that the gym was repainted and a special restroom was set up for him. And local authorities in the Green Bay area said it cost an extra $32,000 in security costs. But the mayor’s office in Madison says they’re excited, and aide Joel Plant calls it an “all hands on deck” effort to welcome the president.
